Three Brutalist Zakopane side chairs Mid Century 1950’s folk design
A rare craftsman-made elm chalet chair, designed by Josef Kulon. Made in Zakopane, Poland C1950s, this piece is brutalist in its design and solid in its construction. The chair is made in elm, with an angled seat and has a carved geometric design
In the early 20th Century, the area of Zakopane became a hub of creativity, instrumental in crafting a modern Polish identity in both architecture and interior design. Known as "Zakopane Style", it used traditional artistic craftsmanship, combining folk with modernism, geometric forms and practical minimalism.
All the chairs have normal wear for something of this age, one has a small piece of wood missing in the carved design as shown in photos.
